What we do
Annually, the Boardman-Youngstown Club actively participates in various fundraising and several service projects. Our signature project and main focus is providing Books For Kids in our community schools.
Eisenbraun Books for Kids Project:
We believe that every child should have books to call their own.
- Providing a book a month: Students in Boardman and Youngstown Elementary Schools receive a book each month of the school year beginning in first grade. Each book is theirs to keep and read at home, sharing with other children in their families.
- Developing Lifelong Habits: Children who grow up reading develop a life long love of learning. Having books in the home is proven to positively benefit children in a myriad of ways. A two-decade long study found that the mere presence of a home library increases children's academic success, vocabulary development, attention and job attainment.
- Promoting Confidence: Students reading on grade level adapt more readily to problem solving and understanding instructions and better grades in school.
We work with a designated teacher at each elementary school to order age appropriate books and distribute them to the students in each Elementary School.
This project honors long time member Tom Eisenbraun and his love and passion for children and for fundraising, which helps make this possible.
A History of Fund Raising
For over 65 years our Club held its annual Live Radio Auction, supported by the community businesses who donated actionable items. Bidders called in on one evening to get the highest bid and collect their item. During these years we raided over $500,000. This established the funding to support organizations in our community helping kids and families to this day. Coupled with grants, private donations and we continue today focusing on books for kids.
